Despite the Gormagon plot (I'm not a fan of conspiracies and barely interested in serial killers), Bones, Season 3, includes some of the best episodes of the series.
Episode 3, "Mummy in the Maze," the Halloween episode, starts with a wry pediatrician/coroner leading Bones & Booth through a maze. They are looking for a real mummy but they keep getting lost, running into dead-ends--as well as electric chairs, guillotines, clown scarecrows, a dragon, etc.
The entire sequence is hilarious, including Booth's matter-of-fact solution to getting lost. It's a maze built from hay, so he pushes over the bales of hay to reach their destination.
My favorite moment, however, comes right before Booth pushes over the first wall of hay. Exasperated at running into yet another dead end, he says to the pediatrician/ coroner, "Tell your assistant [who is with the mummy] to throw his flashlight into the air."
"The FBI requests that you toss your flashlight into the air," the wry pediatrician/coroner says into his walkie-talkie, his tone impossibly dry.
And I laugh like crazy.
I love it when a supporting actor like this--Terry Rhoads plays the pediatrician/coroner--perfectly delivers a great line.
Credit should also be given to the writers: "requests" rather than "wants you to" increases the pediatrician/coroner's ironic formality.
