Beryl Markham: I read the titular story from The Splendid Outcast: African Stories. It is a lovely horse story though the only connection to Africa is the narrator comes from there as does the author, an English woman who grew up on a horse farm in Kenya.
Stephen Markley: Ohio is an American saga. Again, not my cup of tea. But the book starts with a strong scene of a military parade
Liza Marklund: Last Will is quite exciting! It's suspense-adventure rather than mystery so not my cup of tea. But a wild ride right from the start.
Merrill Markoe: Oddly enough I found Nose Down, Eyes Up interesting until the dogs could talk, which happens in the first chapter so the author is playing fair.
Laurie J. Marks: Water Logic seems very very literary. I'm not entirely sure I can have a reader-conversation with a very, very literary book. (Despite being often labeled an intellectual–the reason is my vocabulary–at heart, I’m a popular culture girl.)
Karl Marlantes: The opening of Cold Victory provides information about Finland during WWII that I never knew! It's possible to learn something new any day.
